The Path of LiberationHoliday Greetings to all my friends!

I feel very privileged to have met you all, even for a quick chat. May we have more chances to share ideas and experiences this coming year.

Back in the art shows, several curious people have asked me about the photograph “The Path of Liberation.” It transports me back to my “karmatic” experience. Against the backdrop of the mist and the thin, sinewy limbs of the “magical pine,” the ascent towards Huangshang Mountain is guided by a stone path winding up to the summit. After an arduous, breathless climb, I feel triumphant and possess a sense of freedom once I reach the top. The heavens seem tangible, and harmony with nature pervades the surrounding. I forget the aching muscles, and feel distant from all the earthly conflicts. It was only a transitory feeling, but it was worth the climb. This is what the picture signifies for me.

Back to earth and photography, I am also often asked about my opinion of digital pictures. Obviously, the trend is towards digital technology. I am also keeping abreast with what’s new. The advantage of digital photography is the potential to manipulate the image with Photoshop and to enhance the color and contrast.

Another frequently asked question is “Where will you go next?” That is a mystery! I go without any plans, because my trips are usually spontaneous. I will be leaving to start my hibernation on December. That will be a time to ponder life, to gather inspirations, to take pictures, ….

Chill, relax, and celebrate the holidays! Keep your hopes high for the New Year!

Best wishes,
Michael Chen
